Second Grade Students Experience Art Come to Life

Barclay Elementary second grade students recently took an exciting trip to the Memorial Art Gallery in Rochester, where they explored museum exhibits and viewed a traveling collection featuring the artwork and sculptures of artist John Rhoden.
For many students, the visit was more than just a field trip — it was their first time stepping into a real art museum. They saw firsthand how artwork is displayed and experienced in a professional gallery space, bringing classroom learning to life in a memorable way.
Several high school art students joined each day as chaperones, supporting the younger students and sharing in the experience alongside them. Their involvement helped make the visit feel welcoming, engaging and meaningful for everyone.
The trip gave students a chance to slow down, look closely, and see art in a whole new way — sparking curiosity, conversation and a genuine appreciation for creativity in the world around them.
